Gurugram To Face Water Shortage For 36 Hours, Residents Asked To Be Prepared; These Areas Will Be Hit
The water supply in Gurugram is expected to resume by 10 pm on Tuesday, pending completion of the maintenance tasks.

Residents of Gurugram will face an imminent water supply disruption lasting approximately 36 hours, starting from 10 am on Monday, August 5. The interruption is due to essential maintenance work at the Chandu Plant and the relocation of Sector 47’s master water line. The maintenance activities will necessitate a complete halt in water supply to half of Gurugram, affecting thousands of households. This temporary stoppage is not due to drought conditions but is a planned measure to ensure the infrastructure’s operational efficiency. The water supply is expected to resume by 10 pm on Tuesday, pending completion of the maintenance tasks.

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) announced scheduled maintenance work that will affect drinking water supply in several areas. According to GMDA officials, the installation of an NRV valve at Bakhtawar Chowk and repair work at the Chandu Budheda plant will commence from 10 am on August 5 and conclude by 10 pm on August 6.

Residents in the following areas are expected to experience disruptions in their water supply: Dayanand Colony, Laxman Vihar, New Colony Boosting Station, Chhoti Mata Boosting Station, and sectors 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 33, 34, 37C, 37D, 51, 81, and 115. Additionally, areas spanning from Sector 42 to 74 and Badshahpur, including boosting stations, will also be affected.

In light of this, authorities urged residents to make necessary arrangements such as ordering water tankers and filling up tubs and buckets to manage their water needs during this period. The closure of the Chandu Plant, responsible for supplying 570 million liters per day (MLD) of water alongside the Basai Plant, will result in a significant shortfall of 300 MLD. As a consequence, over 80 areas in Gurugram will experience water scarcity, impacting more than 12 lakh residents.

The GMDA assured residents that normal water supply will resume without interruption from Wednesday onwards. A GMDA spokesperson assured that efforts are being made to minimise inconvenience, and normal water supply is anticipated to resume promptly upon completion of the maintenance work.
