TRIPUNITHURA: The Tripunithura police headed by Circle Inspector Byju Paulose and Hill Palace Sub Inspector P R Santhosh arrested Atta Rahim alias Kantha Muthu, 40 of Lassar market, Kochi and Sasidharan, 53, of Chittethu Karayil, Kakkanadu, for stealing rubber sheets and spices from a wholesale shop near Piravom. They were involved in other major theft cases in Ernakulam and Kottayam districts. As per a tip-off received by the city police commissioner M R Ajithkumar, the police team comprising ASI Paulose, Raju Noha, Babu Suresh, Madhu, Raffique, Jossy and Vinod intensified the night combing by sealing the borders of Hill Palace station limits. While checking a Ford Icon car(KL 07-AB 4945) the police identified a major gangster, Lalu of Thiruvankulam. Though the police team chased the car, he escaped. It was then the police team could find the hideouts of Rahim and Sasidharan near Tripunithura railway station. During questioning, they admitted their relationship with Lalu, who helped the duo market the stolen articles. Rahim met Lalu at Viyyur jail in 2007 and joined with him in the next operations. The duo was produced before the magistrate and remanded for a fortnight.
