New Delhi: Authorities in western Germany were on alert as the Rhine and Main rivers started to flow over in Bonn, Koblenz and Frankfurt, causing flooding along the way.
But the good news was that flood levels along the German rivers Rhine and Main were no longer rising, according to authorities.
Meteorologists suggested that they had predicted a far worse situation.
However, fire fighters and other local officials were busy assisting residents in the affected areas on Monday.
"We are trying to make it possible for people to leave their homes by building walkways. Where we can't reach them with walkways we are organising Unimog (truck) trips so that people can go shopping and don't have to starve (smiles). It also allows them to go on doctor's visits," said Koblenz Fire Department official Norbert Gras.
In the western city of Koblenz, most of the streets along the Rhine were flooded, with people resorting to canoes to move around.
Rescue efforts, however continue in areas worst hit by the inundation attributed mainly to melting of the snow caps.
