KOCHI: Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) is all set to go ahead with ‘Vision 2030’ to develop Kochi into a metro city. As the first step, a meeting has been convened to carry out preliminary discussion on the project on May 14, said N Venugopal, chairman, GCDA. “Kochi is developing each day. Vision 2030 has been planned to transform it into a metro city,” he said. Vision 2030 would mainly focus on the infrastructure development. He added that the discussion topics would include the need to expand the GCDA territory. Venugopal said that the meeting would be attended by 15 people who are either directly or indirectly involved in the development of the city. Former Collector S Krishnakumar, former chairmen Balachandran and Joseph Thomas, District Collector Sheik Pareeth and architect who developed the Marine Drive walkway Kuldip Singh are among those who would be attending the meeting.Second phase of the development of the Marine Drive, International Trade Centre and a Logistic Centre are among the various projects that would be taken up under the first phase of Vision 2030, he said.After the preliminary discussion, the second round of meeting would be held with the chairmen and presidents of nearby municipalities and panchayats. Venugopal hoped that a decision on the different projects to be involved in Vision 2030 project would be finalised at the earliest.
