New Delhi: After announcing the launch plans for its new BlackBery 10 smartphones, Research In Motion seems to have another treat for BlackBerry users. According to The Verge, RIM will add BBM Voice to BlackBerry Messenger. "BBM 7.0 will move away from just text with the addition of BBM Voice - free Wi-Fi calling between all BlackBerry Messenger users." The open beta starts today and interested users can test it out.
The addition of Wi-Fi calling solution to BBM could help users to save on voice minutes when they have Wi-Fi available. The new feature is integrated into the service. There will be an icon representing the voice availability of BBM contacts. Users can simply press the dial key or can touch the dial icon on a touchscreen-enabled BlackBerry to make a voice call. "Once the call is started, users can jump back into chat to send images or other content, will full multitasking available in other apps and full compatibility with speakerphone or Bluetooth headsets," the report says.
Though there are many other apps which offer free or cheap calling, but the plan to add BBM voice to BlackBerry messenger could prove to be a valuable addition for BlackBerry users. Another change that the company is planning to make is the merging of a user's BBM ID with their BlackBerry ID - which is used for purchasing apps
