Five people from a family, including a woman, were killed and three others injured when the car they were travelling in was hit by an SUV at Nandihalli village on the Bangalore-Tumkur NH-4 late on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Basavaraju (46), Nagaraju (28), Dharmaraju (50), Maheshwarappa (52) and Leelavathi (30) — all from Hiriyuru village in Holalkere taluk of Chitradurga district. They were relatives of police inspector Tippeswamy, attached to State Intelligence in Bangalore.
They were returning to their native place after the engagement of Leelavathi to a groom from Bangalore when the SUV from Tumkur hit their car after hitting the road divider.
Three people, including Ramakrishne Gowda and Dinesh of Nagarabhavi in Bangalore, who were in the SUV, were injured in the accident and shifted to a hospital in Bangalore. They were in an inebriated state, sources said. Kyathsandra police have registered a case.
