First woman MS of GGH passes away

CHENNAI: Dr CN Sowmini, the first woman Medial Superintendent of the Government General Hospital passed away. She was also the WHO Member of the Expert committee of Venereal Diseases.She was the founder member, President and patron of the Indian Association for the study of sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS. She was instrumental in starting the Women Doctors Association of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. She also served as a member of the expert committee on venereal diseases in the Indian Council of Medical Research. She was the recipient of the ‘Life-Time Achievement Award’ in the field of venerology and AIDS. She was also attached to the Indian Red Cross Society.During her tenure as Director, she conducted surveys for the incidence of venereal diseases. She passed into glory on Monday.
