Fired doctor threatens legal action
Dr Kalaniya, who was part of the President's medical team in Mumbai and who collapsed due to exhaustion, has been terminated by JJ Hospital without being given prior notice.

Mumbai: Two JJ Hospital doctors, who were part of the President APJ Abdul Kalam?s medical team during his visit to Mumbai on September 12, have been terminated from their duties.

Their only offence was that they had spoken to the media about the way they had been treated while they were on call for the President.

Thirty-year-old Sameer Kalaniya was part of President APJ Abdul Kalam?s medical team during his visit to Mumbai.

At the end of the day, Sameer collapsed due to exhaustion, which was covered extensively by the media who were following the President.

However, on Thursday, Sameer and his colleague Dr Ravi Ghugre, were issued termination orders by JJ Hospital without any prior notice. Both doctors are threatening legal action if their termination order is not revoked.

"This is a black spot on my career. The hospital should have given me an opportunity to present my side of the story," said Kalaniya.

JJ Hospital and the state administration are passing the buck and have shifted the blame on the Mumbai police who allegedly gave the hospital a negative report on the conduct of the three doctors who were part of the convoy.

"We took the decision to terminate the doctors after the dean of JJ Hospital said that the police had given them a report on the negative conduct of the three doctors," said Director Medical Education and Research, government of Maharashtra, Dr W.B Tayade.

Meanwhile, the resident doctors at JJ Hospital have pledged their support to the terminated doctors, who they feel have been made victims by the administration since this incident took place during the visit of the President.
