A family alleged "regular torture" by supporters of a political leader in Palamau and approached the Deputy Commissioner to forward their "euthanasia plea" to President Pranab Mukherjee.
"It is a serious matter. The memorandum will be forwarded to the President as demanded by the family," Deputy Commissioner KN Jha told reporters when his reaction was sought on the family's plea.
"No one has the right to take the law in their own hands," he said.
Jha said Superintendent of Police YS Ramesh was asked to provide adequate security to the family.
In the memorandum to the President submitted by the victim Ashish Kumar Gupta, his Parmeshwari Gupta, mother Gayatri Devi and uncle Udai Prasad Gupta, they pleaded euthanasia for the entire family as they were "fed up" with the "torture" by the supporters of the politician.
They alleged that the bodyguard of the political leader allegedly dragged Ashish out of his house at Tarhasi village in the district last night and beat him up with shoes.
The memorandum also said the family had approached the police several times as the torture was allegedly continuing by the leader's supporters for the last two months as Ashish was a supporter of the politician's opponents.
