Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has announced that the government would soon constitute a high-level expert committee to find a solution to the water disputes among Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana regions of the state.
He said that the committee would meet all the stakeholders in the three regions before submitting a report to the government.
Addressing farmers at the Paruchur market yard on Tuesday evening as a part of the Indiramma Baata programme in Prakasam district, Reddy said, “Of late water release to one region is being opposed by another region. In view of this, we are seriously pursuing the matter and going to constitute a committee that would come up with a solution for all the regions.”
He was responding to the questions raised by a group of farmers at the meeting on water release to Krishna delta. He further said the government would provide irrigation water to additional 50 lakh acres by 2014 end.
He distributed loan eligibility cards to some tenant farmers on the occasion.
Earlier, he distributed credit cards to weavers at Chirala and said it was the Congress which is committed to their welfare. Taking potshots at TDP president Chandrababu Naidu, his padayatra and TD’s BC declaration, Kiran Reddy said, “TDP chief Naidu, who allotted only Rs 926 crore during his tenure as the CM, is now talking much about the welfare of the BCs. The Congress has allotted Rs 3,015 crore this year alone for BC welfare.”
Kiran Reddy earlier launched the Indiramma Baata at Vodarevu near Chirala by leaving some fish into the sea to mark meenotsavam. He said the government is planning to distribute government lands on the seashore to the fishermen community.
