It is heartening to see the revival of the Malayalam film industry with an array of experimental films released recently, said Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the new office building of the Cochin Film Society which is organising the Cochin International Film Festival (CIFF) in December.
“Malayalam film industry had gone through several periods of crisis in its history. But directors like Bharathan and Padmarajan could bring in new variety of films and give a fresh lease of life to the industry. I hope the CIFF
will play a pivotal role towards this end”, the minister said.
On the occasion director Lal Jose said that the festival will be a platform to learn about movies from various parts of the world and a forum to showcase the Malayalam movies to foreign tourists and others visitors to the city.
“It must have a different identity from that of the film festival in Thiruvanathapuram,” he said.
Hibi Eden MLA, District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth, DTPC secretary T N Jayashankar, actor Fahad Fazil, film society president Ravindran and producer Rajeev Nair attended the function.
