Elton John stands up for gay abuse

London: Legendry singer Elton John, who will be turning 60 soon, has been asking people to stop abusing gays and rally for their rights.

A gay himself, John is using his celebrity status to draw attention to the bad treatment gays have received, reported contactmusic.com.

Writing in a newspaper, he said: "Whether the bigot is in our local pub or a thousand miles away, we should all stand up and speak out for basic human rights.”

“There has been substantial progress on gay rights in Britain, but we can't be complacent, not when homophobia still exists here and not when people around the world live in fear solely because of their sexuality,” he added.
