New Delhi: Some of the most creative brains in the home decor industry will be felicitated at the Fifth Elle Décor International Design Awards (EDIDA) on Friday.
EDIDA's event partners for the evening are Flos, a lighting solution company that marked its presence in India in 2003.
Flos is associated with celebrated designers like Piero Lissoni, Tim Dehraag, Philippe Starck, Achille Castiglioni, Marc Newson, Jasper Morrison and Marc Sadler.
In the past, prominent winners of EDIDA include names like former actor Twinkle Khanna, fashion designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, home décor designers Shyam Ahuja, Neil Foley and Michael Aram.
Eleven EDIDAs would be presented for the best product design in home decor across various categories including, lighting, fabric, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, furniture, flooring, wall covering, table top and the Designer of the Year.
The special EDIDA Young Talent Award is being introduced for the first time to recognise upcoming creative talent.
EDIDA has also introduced a special category in India – a student award to encourage students in the field of design.
The national EDIDA finalists from each country automatically qualify for the worldwide contest. The global winners will be announced at the Salon Mobile in Milan in April 2007.
An annual celebration, EDIDA has now morphed into a mammoth event and is today recognised as a platform for evaluating product design within the industry.
The awards were instituted in 2002 and are organised in all the 23 countries where the magazine, Elle Décor has a presence.
