Dr Kafeel Khan to Reach Nipah Hit Kozikhode Tonight
Dr Kafeel, an accused in the BRD Medical College tragedy in which dozens of children lost their lives, will be taking a flight from Lucknow to Bengaluru and then to Kochi, from there he will travel to Kozikhode.

Lucknow: Dr Kafeel Khan recently offered his services to fight the Nipah virus in Kerala. He said that Sister Lini who lost her life while serving the patients of Nipah virus is the real inspiration for him

Dr Kafeel, an accused in the BRD Medical College tragedy in which dozens of children lost their lives, will be taking a flight from Lucknow to Bengaluru and then to Kochi, from there he will travel to Kozikhode.

Speaking to media, Dr Kafeel said, “Sister Lini who lost her life while serving patients is an inspiration for me and I am not at all scared even if lose my life while working for such a noble cause. This is a service I want to do to humanity as a doctor and will not be taking any pay or salary for this. Everything is done and I will be in Kochi by Friday night.”

Sister Lini had contracted the deadly Nipah Virus while tending to two brothers who were the first victims of the fatal outbreak in Kozhikode. She breathed her last a few days ago, without getting a chance to see her loved ones. Her husband Sajeesh, who works as an accountant in Bahrain, had flown down two days ago, but could not get to meet her in time. The total death toll due to Nipah virus has by now reached 12.

Dr Kafeel Khan had in a Facebook post requested the Kerala Chief Minister to allow him to save innocent lives.

“After sehri n fajr namaz was trying to sleep but couldn't. Disturbed with increase no of mortality due to Nipah Virus (NiV )infection n rumors spreading on social media platforms. I request Kerala chief minister Mr Pinarayi Vijayan to allow me to serve at Calicut Medical college to save innocent lives,” he wrote on Facebook.

Responding to the request, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said the state government was happy to welcome dedicated doctors like Khan who would volunteer to serve in Kozhikode, the district most affected by the outbreak.

Vijayan wrote in a Facebook post, “There are several doctors who serve in the medical field without any concern to their life and health. I am seeing Khan as one among them.”

Vijayan asked Kafeel and other health workers who want to work in Kerala to get in touch with the Kozhikode Medical College Superintendent.
