Hours after the news of an alleged leak of the General Knowledge paper in Group II examination broke on Sunday, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Chairman R Nataraj said he was awaiting the inquiry report on the issue.

“I cannot tell you anything about the issue unless I get the inquiry report,” Nataraj told Express on Sunday. “There was full police security for transporting question papers. We don’t know how the alleged leak has happened. We are awaiting the inquiry report,” he added.

Approximately 6.4 lakh students wrote the Group II exams in the State, vying for 3161 vacancies.

Nataraj had earlier told Express that the exams would take place under strict security, with special training for the invigilators, CCTV cameras and police protection.

Meanwhile, Erode Collector V K Shanmugam said a report on the inquiry into the leakage of the paper in the district would be sent to the TNPSC. “Our inquiry is going on,” he said even as the candidate Dhanakodi, who was detained at the office of the PA (General) to the Collector, was being questioned.

RDO Sugumar said Dhanakodi was employed as assistant librarian in an engineering college at Komarapalayam, and her husband Senthil, who was also detained, did odd jobs. Police sources claimed he worked as tout who scouted students for the college by contacting various schools.

However, Senthil claimed that he was innocent. A native of Bavani-Komarapalayam, he said two strangers had handed over the ‘sample’ question paper to his wife.

During inquiry, Dhanakodi claimed that she too was shocked at the similarity in the sample paper and the actual question paper. “I came to the Collectorate to lodge a complaint as such leakage would affect the future of 6.5 lakh aspirants,” she claimed.

However, DSP Periaiah said the truth would emerge only after a complete and thorough inquiry.

Some aspirants in Erode were frustrated over the leakage. “I was working as a web design teacher in a private firm after completing BE. I resigned six months ago and prepared hard for the exam hoping to land a government job. But, now, I have to prepare again if a re-examination is ordered due to the leakage of the question paper,” rued Mouli.
