Dominika Cibulkova makes swift progress at Pan Pacific Open
Cibulkova easily got the better of Flipkens 6-1, 6-3 on Tuesday to move into the second round.

Tokyo: Sixth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova beat Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the second round of the Pan Pacific Open on Tuesday.

Cibulkova held all eight of her service games while fighting off four break points at Ariake Coliseum and will next play Coco Vandeweghe of the United States who rallied from 4-2 down in the second set and fired 10 aces to beat Russian qualifier Alla Kudryavtseva, 6-2, 7-5.

During the last game of the Cibulkova's match, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 hit an area north of Tokyo. The earthquake was felt by the players.

In other first-round matches, Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia defeated Daniela Hantuchova 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, while Daria Gavrilova of Russia rallied to beat Lauren Davis of the United States 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
