Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal on Thursday informed the Parliament about the digitalisation of courts and the “big push” for tech-enabled courtrooms. Responding to a question by MPs Krishan Lal Panwar and Laxmikant Bajapyee, the law minister noted that the E-court phase -III project envisages a smoother user experience by building a “smart” ecosystem.
It may prove to be a game changer in ensuring ease of justice by making the Court experience convenient, inexpensive and hassle-free for all the citizens of the country.
BUDGETARY ALLOCATION OF 7,210 CR. FOR SPAN OF 4 YEARS FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF PHASE-III: MEGHWAL
As Phase II of the E-courts Mission Mode project came to an end, the Union Cabinet on September 13, 2023, approved Phase-III of the E-courts Project, with a budgetary outlay of Rs 7,210 crore for four years starting from 2023 onwards.
E-courts Phase III intends to put in place intelligent smart systems enabling data-based decision-making for judges and registries while scheduling or prioritizing cases. The main objective of Phase- III is to create a unified technology platform for the judiciary, thus providing a seamless and paperless interface between the courts, the litigants and other stakeholders.
The various components of E-courts Phase III including digitization of Rs 3,108 crore pages of legacy records, cloud infrastructure, 4400 fully functional eSewa Kendras in all court complexes, and use of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, etc along with its financial details are placed at Annexure II. Funds under the E-courts Mission Mode Project are released to various High Courts on the recommendation of the E-committee, Supreme Court of India.
