New Delhi: Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni on Friday resigned as brand ambassador of realty firm Amrapali, less than a week after its clients targeted him for pending work.
"Unfortunate that Dhoni's name being dragged into the controversy so we advised him to stay away," a statement from Amrapali said.
This comes after residents of a housing society in Noida took to social media asking Dhoni to disassociate himself as Amrapali's brand ambassador, forcing the company to promise completion of pending work at the project.
The residents claimed that civil and electrical work at the first phase of project 'Sapphire' at Noida Sector 45 was not completed though 800 families had already moved in.
Listening to residents' complaint Dhoni had said he will take up the matter with the builder and that it must deliver on its promises.
The residents said they were forced to tag Dhoni on Twitter with #AmrapaliMisuseDhoni as the Amrapali management was not listening to their complaints.
Amrapali said the delay was because there was a stay from the National Green Tribunal, which was lifted only couple of months ago.
