Trupti Desai's Bhumata Brigade is demanding to an end to a centuries-old ban on women's entry into the inner-most part of the Shani Shingnapur temple.

Maharashtra: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday met women activists of Bhumata Brigade led by Trupti Desai - who were barred on Tuesday from entering the Shani Shingnapur temple in Ahmednagar.

Soon after the meeting with CM, Desai claimed that Fadnavis supported our demand. "I requested him to intervene so that women can enter the Shani Shingnapur temple. Similar rules across the country should implemented by the state government," she said.

Earlier, in the day Desai called him requested for an appointment.

Desai's Bhumata Brigade is demanding to an end to a centuries-old ban on women's entry into the inner-most part of the temple, where the idol of Lord Shani is placed on an open-air platform.

On Tuesday, the women activists were trying to force their way into the temple when they were blocked by the villagers and the local police.

Concerned over the incident, Fadnavis tweeted, "Indian culture and Hindu religion gives women the right to pray."
