A day after police arrested five suspects in connection with the gang rape of a mentally challenged minor girl on a bus in Dehradun, the victim’s father demanded “bulldozer action” on the houses of the accused. All five accused are associated with Uttarakhand Transport Corporation including three full-time and two contractual employees.
The 14-year-old victim, a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, was reportedly waiting for a bus to Punjab at Delhi’s Kashmere Gate Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) on August 12 when the accused bus driver and conductor of the Dehradun depot offered her a ride to Dehradun. After reaching Dehradun, the accused parked the bus in a secluded area of the ISBT, where they, along with the other three men, assaulted her.
‘We Want Bulldozer Justice’
“We want bulldozer justice, the government should not spare the accused and raze their houses,” said Mohammad Farooq, the head of the native village of the victim.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajey Singh, the whole incident came to light after a guard on the intervening night of August 12-13 noticed a girl sitting alone at a bench at ISBT Dehradun.
“The girl was rescued and taken to a child rights shelter home. It took four days for the minor to explain her plight,” SSP Singh said.
Police noted that CCTV footage was retrieved which was shown to the minor who identified one accused. On information from the said suspect, police nabbed all five accused including two drivers, two conductors and one cashier who hail from Uttarakhand and UP.
According to police, the accused took turns in raping the minor inside the parked bus at Dehradun’s ISBT. All five accused have been booked under the POCSO Act and sent to judicial custody.
