KOCHI: The sixth annual dance and music festival of the Kalyanakrishna Foundation, which stands in honour of Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and wife Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma, will begin on Friday at the Changampuzha Smaraka Kendram, Edappally.Kerala Kalamandalam Vice-Chancellor Suresh will inaugurate the festival at 5.30 pm on Friday. This year’s endowment award for life-long service and achievements in the field of classical dances of Kerala will be given to Mudembally Balakrishna Marar.Day one will also see a Kathakali performance by the students of Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair. Carnatic music by Thamarakkadu Govindan Namboodiri and Nangiyarkoothu by Kapila Venu are the programmes scheduled for Saturday. On Sunday, the final day, programmes will begin with a discussion on “Lokadharmi and Natyadharmi in Kathakali” by Kalamandalam Balasubrahmaniyan and Margi Vijayan. It will be follwed by Kathak by Jayanthi Eswarputhy from Bangalore and Mohiniyattam by Smitha Rajan, granddaughter of Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma.
