Gwalior: Madhya Pradesh DGP has ordered arrest of eight policemen for the alleged custodial death of a person in Gwalior in 2011.
DGP Nandan Dube, after reviewing the case, ordered that all the accused policemen be arrested and chargesheeted, police sources said on Tuesday.
Government Railway Police (GRP) had arrested one Sunil Rajawat on July 19, 2011 in connection with a theft case.
He was allegedly beaten up in custody by policemen following which he died two days later. His body was disposed of in the Chambal river, they said.
After sometime two Hawaldars told their superiors about the custodial death. Two other persons, who were in police custody at that time, supported their charge, the sources said.
The Government ordered a CID probe and later suspended all the accused policemen, who are absconding since then. Police also announced a reward of Rs 5,000 each for information leading to their arrest, the sources said.
The accused policemen are: then GRP Station In-charge RS Chouhan, Constables Ravi Sen, Diwakar, Mahendra Singh Bundela, Umrao Singh, Dharmendra, Yogesh and Manoj, they said.
They have been booked for murder, destruction of evidence and conspiracy.
