Explosive traces found in baggage of under-22 cricketer from J-K.

New Delhi: An under-22 cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir was released in Bangalore on Saturday after police questioned him for traces of explosives allegedly found in his bag in a stadium room.

Pervez Rasool, a member of the J-K under-22 team for the CK Naydu Trophy, was detained from a room at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after bomb detectors allegedly “pointed” to his bag.

"When the police entered the room, the instruments pointed towards a bag but no explosives were found in it. Even then, as a measure of precaution, we have taken the person possessing the bag into custody. His antecedents are being verified from the Jammu and Kashmir police," Bangalore police commissioner Shanker Bidari told reporters.

Bidari clarified that only one cricketer had been detained. First reports of the incident had said that another cricketer of the J-K team had been detained.

Two Champions League matches at the stadium were delayed by an hour after explosive traces were found. The first match, originally scheduled to start 1600 hrs IST, was to be played between Cape Cobras and Victorian Bushrangers.

The other match, originally scheduled to start at 2000 hrs IST, is between hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils.
