CPM may sack P Sasi

KANNUR: The political fate of P Sasi, former Kannur district secretary and state committee member of the CPM, has virtually been sealed, with the central committee of his party turning down the decision of the official wing of the state leadership to hand out a lighter punishment of sending him back to a branch committee.The state committee of the CPM has now been forced to reconsider the action against Sasi in the wake of the  central committee’s reported decision. According to available indications, the state committee of the party, scheduled to meet on July 1 and 2 will take  a final decision on  Sasi’s continuance in the party even as an ordinary member.  The state secretariat of the CPM planned to be held prior to the state committee also will take up the issue, according to reliable sources. According to available information, the setback suffered by the CPM in the recent Assembly polls also had much to do with the allegations of moral turpitude against the former district secretary of the CPM. Some of the central committee members of the CPM had expressed resentment over the attempts being made by the official state leadership in the party to protect Sasi, allowing him to get away with a lighter punishment. “Sasi deserves nothing less than expulsion from the party,” according to the pro-VS lobby. VS too had come in support of the central committee’s decision on the Sasi issue. Several other leaders against whom there were allegations of moral turpitude had been mercilessly shown the door by the party in the past, argued those who wanted to take stern action against Sasi.  At the same time, the committee deputed by the CPM to probe the charges  against Sasi had found him ‘guilty’, according to available information from party sources.  Meanwhile, Sasi launched practice as an advocate at the Thalassery Bar.
