KOCHI: Emphasising the need for a counter-terrorism mechanism in the country, West Bengal Governor and former National Security Advisor (NSA) M K Narayanan said that the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) should be established after sorting out objections raised by the states.“Some states have certain reservations that should be looked into. It’s essential to have a counter-terrorism mechanism,” Narayanan told reporters on the sidelines of a function here on Tuesday. He believed that the current differences of opinion between the Central Government and the states can be addressed.“This should not be seen as a fight between the Centre and the states,” he said. Non-Congress Chief Ministers who attended the annual meet on security on Monday in New Delhi had registered their concerns over the proposed NCTC, claiming the move would be a threat to Indian Federalism.“The main contention is whether the NCTC’s intelligence wing should be given the responsibility of investigation.  Let’s hope that the issues be sorted out in the next meeting scheduled for May 5,”  he said.
