HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress MPs have deferred their proposed agitation for a separate Telangana state by one month. They want to get into action only on July 1 if the Congress high command does not take any decision on the issue.“We will wait till the end of this month. We are hoping that our party will take a favourable decision by July 1. If it does not happen, we have our own action programme,” Bhongir MP K Rajagopal Reddy said on Wednesday after an informal meeting with his colleagues from Telangana region. The action programme includes hunger strike and resignations en masse. “I want to reiterate that we will not hesitate to take any extreme step or any sacrifice for the Telangana cause. If necessary we will lay down our lives for the sake of Telangana,” said Rajagopal Reddy, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday. The MP said they did not quit their posts in the hope that the Congress high command would take a favourable decision on creation of separate Telangana state. In fact we are continuing as MPs for Telangana cause only,” Rajagopal Reddy said. The Telangana MPs decided to keep the heat on the party high command on Telangana issue. During the month, they want to meet the members of the Congress core committee in Delhi and explain to them the need for an early decision on Telangana to save the party, an MP who attended the meeting said. The MPs also favoured the candidature of former minister DS Redya Naik for the PCC chief post. “Since it is a tradition that the PCC post should go to Telangana region when the chief minister is from Seemandhra. We want Redya Naik to be considered for the post. More than the PCC chief post, what we want is a favourable decision on Telangana,” Rajagopal Reddy said.
