Indore: Opposition Congress on Wednesday filed a complaint with the Election Commission seeking "appropriate" action against BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Industries Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya for his remarks on the model code of conduct.
"During a function to worship arms of a particular community on the occasion of Dusshera festival in Nandanagar area on Tuesday, Vijaywargiya expressed his unhappiness over the issue of Model Code of Conduct and said he did not care about the model code," Congress Spokesman Narendra Saluja said in the complaint.
Saluja termed Vijaywargiya's statement as against the democratic values and added that it has put a big question mark on the entire system. He requested the Election Commission to initiate suitable action against the minister. Repeated attempts to contact Vijaywargia did not yield any results.
Meanwhile, a BJP spokesman said on condition of not publishing his name that the fundamental right of political leaders on observing religious freedom should not be undermined in the name of implementation of model code, and the election commission should approach a 'practical' approach in this regard in the view of festive season.
