BANGALORE: The Congress has been accused of attempting to divide the electorate in Koppal on caste lines ahead of the bypolls to be held on September 26.Excise Minister M P Renukacharya said that this was a signal of frustration within the Congress, which, after losing all elections in the state, was pitting leaders of different castes against each other. “Congress is employing the age-old practice of divide and rule which was adopted by the Britishers,” he said.Exuding confidence over the prospects of BJP candidate Karadi Sanganna, the minister said that the state government has won the confidence of the people by providing them with good governance and pursuing development in the last three years. He said the people would bless the party once again in the bypoll. The minister said that Congress leaders who were fed up at being the Opposition for the last six years tried their best to topple the BJP government by taking advantage of “innocent” JD(S) leaders. “People would once again reject the designs of the Congress by defeating their candidate.”Renukacharya also slammed JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy for calling Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda a daily wage earner. “It shows his cheap attitude,” he criticised.
