City to have 2 Marinas in 5 years

CHENNAI: Chennai is expected to have two marinas to moor luxury yachts and sailing boats around the city within five years, according to a port official.Speaking to Express on the sidelines of the Annual Press Meet organised by the Chennai Port, chief engineer R Srinivasa Kannan said that a small scale marina, modelled from the Kochi experience, would come up at one of the vacant berths, while a large-scale marina would come up at the mouth of Cooum. The smaller marina is expected to be ready within two years“We have obtained clearance from the State Coastal Zone Management Authority and submitted the proposal for clearance to the Environment Ministry. We hope to get clearance in the next three months for the large marina,” Kannan said.He said a detailed project report had been prepared and environmental study completed. IIT Madras had conducted the nodal study of the groin field.
