Islamabad: The home ministers of India and Pakistan will hold a crucial meeting in Islamabad on Friday. It is the first such meeting between the ministers of the two countries since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Home Minister P Chidambaram will put pressure on Islamabad to prosecute those involved in perpetrating the Mumbai attacks. He will hold talks with Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik and is expected to try and reduce misgivings between the two countries.
Chidambaram is also expected to take with him details of the interrogation of David Coleman Headley. It includes Jamaat-ud-Daawa chief Hafiz Saeed's links with the Mumbai attackers.
Chidambaram may use it to drive home the argument that the evidence against Saeed lies in Pakistan itself.
On Thursday, foreign secretaries of the two countries met in Islamabad for delegation level talks. In it, both sides agreed to not to let terrorism derail the prospects of improving relationship between the countries.
"We must deny terrorist elements any opportunity to derail prospects to improve the relationship," Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said after holding talks with her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir in Islamabad.
However, she demurred from stating that this was a resumption of the Comprehensive Dialogue, which India had suspended after the Mumbai terror attacks in November 2008.
