Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Tuesday sanctioned a sum of Rs 200 crore to compensate farmers who suffered losses in recent rainfalls and hailstorms in several places of the state.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Tuesday sanctioned a sum of Rs 200 crore to compensate farmers who suffered losses in recent rainfalls and hailstorms in several places of the state.

"Singh chaired a meeting of senior officials to take stock of the situation and took a decision on Tuesday in Raipur at the Mantralaya," an official said.

He reviewed relief works for villagers and farmers affected due to natural calamity, besides issuing directives to ensure proper arrangements at paddy storage depots for the safety of procured paddy, the official said.

Expressing concern over losses incurred by farmers during the current Rabi crop season, the CM said that Chhattisgarh government is committed to provide every kind of assistance to farmers and villagers.

On the CM's direction, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department sanctioned Rs 200 crore to affected farmers, which would be disbursed after conducting a proper survey of the those affected by the disaster, he said.

Affected farmers would also get benefits of the crop insurance scheme, based on the weather, he said.

The scheme is applicable for Rabi crops like wheat and gram in Raipur, Balodabazar-Bhatapara, Gariyaband, Surguja, Rajnandgaon, Surajpur, Balrampur, Ramanujganj, Durg, Bemetara, Balod, Kabirdham, Bilaspur and Mungeli districts, he said.
