Tension prevailed at the police station in Kota village, 50 km from here on Tuesday, after a 25-year-old woman started a protest urging the station incharge T Venkataramana marry her immediately, alleging she was carrying his child.
The woman, identified as P Narasamma alias Nandini of Pullampadu village, came to the station and staged a protest around 3.
30 pm.
The woman was holding a tin of pesticide, threatened to commit suicide, if Venkataramana did not marry her immediately.
She alleged that Venkataramana had ‘cheated’ her in the name of Love and had gotten her pregnant.
Venkataramana denied Narasamma’s allegations and claimed that he did not even know her.
He suspected some local persons who were aggrieved with his strict policing and honesty had hatched a conspiracy to destroy his career.
Narasamma who was married to a construction worker in Pullampadu of Naidupet mandal nearly seven years back had deserted him within five months of the marriage.
She was living with her mother at Marlapalle in D V Satram mandal and is said to have come in contact with the SI, when he was working at Sriharikota.
The situation turned in favour of the SI, when many of the villagers supported him.
Meanwhile, senior police officials who came to know about the incident said that action would be initiated against Venkataramana, if he was found guilty.
