The centre directed the states to set up a non-lapsable road safety fund which will be used for various activities like procurement and deployment of ambulance, cranes, road safety awareness campaigns and setting up institute of driving training & research.
The states were also told to set up state-level and district-level road safety councils. The central road transport officials wanted a report on the institutional mechanism and their action plans of states on road safety.
