THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The students of Christ Nagar Higher Secondary School (ICSE) staged a tableau highlighting the role played by women, based on the theme ‘Women then and now’, in the school as part of a curriculum activity the other day. The students lined up the profiles of some of the outstanding women down the ages at the stage show.  The tableau highlighted the fact that the important role a woman plays is that of a mother. There was a visualisation of how women were deprived of education in the past and how with the passage of time, women started receiving education and became competent in every sphere of life. Educated women are the living beacons of hope for the family, society and the nation, the students proclaimed through the tableau. The tableau focused on great woman personalities who transformed the world by their vision and determination. This included Sarojini Naidu, the nightingale of India; Joan of Arc, the French heroine and Mother Teresa, regarded as ‘the miracle of a millennium’, among others.Margaret Thatcher, former prime minister of Britain; Benazir Bhutto-the first lady prime minister of a Muslim country (Pakistan); Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka-the first woman prime minister in the world; the first woman in space - Valentina Tereshkova of Russia and Wangari Mathai of Kenya, Nobel Prize winner for Peace, were also presented on stage. Other presentations included the first Muslim female to win a Nobel Prize - Shirin Ebadi of Iran; the famous writer Agatha Christie, the double Nobel winner and famous scientist Madame Curie of Poland; tennis player Steffi Graf of Germany and the President, Pratibha Patil. The students paid a tribute to the great women, saying they will always be remembered by the world with reverence.
