BHUBANESWAR: The +2 students under the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, will follow the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus and exam pattern from the 2013 academic session. The CHSE board has been gradually implementing the CBSE pattern for its course for the past few years. And it will soon change its marking ratio of 60 marks for short question and 40 marks for long questions to 70 marks and 30 marks respectively. This is being done to allow the CHSE students a level-playing field  for scoring marks. “The students will take it as a challenge and perform better in the exams. Prior to this, they used to mug up answers which was an unhealthy trend. The more number of objective questions will allow them better understanding of the subject,” said the CHSE Controller of Examinations, Jasobanta Behera. There have been complaints regarding the syllabus pattern of CHSE due to which the students were unable to score good marks. “We will change the CHSE pattern completely and follow the CBSE pattern,” said Behera. The change will be implemented in all the three streams, arts, commerce and science. Science and commerce will follow the CBSE pattern in toto. Whereas, a committee has been set up to decide the proportion of the arts syllabus content that will be changed to the CBSE pattern. As of now, it has been decided to keep 20 per cent local content in subjects like history and political science. The owners of the engineering colleges  mushrooming in the City have been demanding lowering of the cut off marks to enable admission of more students. Most of them are facing trouble filling up seats. A few had moved the High Court to lower the cut off marks to 30 per cent. But the court ruled out the possibility and reinforced the 40 per cent bench mark set by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).This was the other reason for the change in the marking system, said a council official.
