The Central study team sent to Karnataka to give a status report on the availability of Cauvery water, quantum of requirement to save standing crop and meet drinking water requirements of Bangalore and other towns in the delta region will submit its report to the Centre soon.
S Jacob, who is from Central Water Resource Department and is leading the Central team here on Saturday said, “We have encountered the situation wherein the basin districts have received below normal rainfall resulting in poor storage and inflow into the four reservoirs in Karnataka.
” Informing that the team members directly interacted with the farmers in the basin, he said the ground realities in the Cauvery delta area have been taken into account.
Meanwhile, Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai who also met the Central team said that it has promised to present the true picture to the Centre.
He added that he had also given a report to the Central team prepared by the state agnecy Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited on the reality in Cauvery basin.
Informing that the Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) will meet again on October 11 and go through the reports submitted by the study teams which had toured Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, he said that the state will not get a raw deal again.
“We have appealed to the Apex court to grant a stay on CRA’s directions to release water to Tamil Nadu taking into note the grim situation in the state,” Bommai said.
He added that senior counsel from the state led by Fali Nariman will be present when the matter comes up before the Supreme Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, some from the team also visited Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu.
