Terming the Supreme Court’s directions on Friday to the state to abide by the decision of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) to release 9,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu “unfortunate”, Opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Council S R Patil blamed the state government for the present situation.
Speaking to Express here on Friday, the Congress leader found fault with the counsel of Karnataka which had agreed before the SC to release 9,000 cusecs of water to its neighbouring state as a “goodwill gesture”.
“The goodwill gesture has become a noose around the state,” Congress leader lamented.
Informing that the state government has convened an all-party floor leaders on Saturday, the Congress leader said that the only option left is probably to file review-petition before the SC on the issue.
“The state has to explore all the legal possibilities to save the interests of the Cauvery basin people in Karnataka as the storage situation in all the reservoirs, including, Krishna Raja Sagar, Kabini and Hemavathi are precarious” he said.
