New Delhi: A day ahead of polling, candidates of various parties on Wednesday carried out a door-to-door campaign in the city in a last ditch effort to reach out to voters.
The candidates undertook door-to-door contact with voters and sought their support a day after the campaign for Lok Sabha elections ended in the national capital. Congress candidate from North East Delhi JP Agarwal carried out a "silent" door-to-door campaign in the constituency and interacted with voters in different areas.
"The response to his silent door-to-door campaign was very positive," Agarwal's campaign team said in a statement. In North West and West Delhi constituencies also, a number of candidates went door-to-door in an attempt to woo the voters.
AAP candidate in East Delhi Rajmohan Gandhi also met people in the constituency and sought their support. Most candidates held long meetings with their polling
agents. A number of BJP and Congress candidates held meetings with booth-level party workers and asked them to bring their supporters to polling booths.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Election Commission also reviewed its preparation for the polling. Nearly 50,000 security personnel, apart from 161 flying squads of police and video surveillance teams have been deployed as part of preparations
to ensure fair and peaceful polls in which 1.27 crore people are eligible to vote.
A total of 150 candidates are in the fray and polling will be held from 7 AM to 6 PM. The electorate include over 3.37 lakh first time voters. Election Commission has this time done away with provision of voter cards and voter slips
being mandatory to cast vote.
