CPM district secretary Kadakampally Surendran has asked the government to cancel the order to lease out the Kovalam palace. It was in 2004 that ITDC sold Halcyon Palace to the Mfar group. But the LDF Government took over the Palace in 2005 and handed it over to the Archaeology department.
The government in 2011 had filed an appeal against the court verdict in favour of those who had purchased the hotel. But the UDF Government is moving to hand over the palace and 10.2 acres of adjoining land on lease, even when the case is still pending with the court, Kadakampally Surendran said. He also alleged corruption behind the move. He exhorted the public to strongly protest the government move.
