BANGALORE: In a tragic incident, an Assistant Engineer (AE) of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) succumbed to injuries when he was hit by a locomotive engine at Cantonment Railway Station on Saturday, while attending a water leakage problem.The deceased has been identified as Umesh (39), a resident of Kathriguppe. According to police, Umesh, along with four employees, had been to Cantonment Railway Station in Vasanth Nagar to rectify the water leak. He, along with the watermen and other staff, went inside the water room to note down the reading. Umesh was said to be hit by a diesel locomotive as he stepped out of the room. He was immediately rushed to hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. Cantonment Railway Police said, “While his other colleagues were inside the room busy with the work, Umesh stepped out of the room and was said to be hit by the locomotive accidentally. We will conduct an inquiry into the incident. The water room is just six-feet away from the railway track”.The police also stated that the BWSSB staffers have given a complaint against the Railway Department.
