New Delhi: Central Bureau of India (CBI) has evidence that Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and former Union minister Buta Singh knew his son was fixing a deal with Nashik builder Ram Rao Patil, sources in the investigating agency have told CNN-IBN.
Sources said that according to the phone call details available with the CBI, Sarabjot made clear references about the case details which were only available with Buta Singh.
The sources also claimed that Buta was also a part of the chain of the deal with the builder.
Meanwhile, in another jolt for Buta Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Sunday denied speaking in support of the former Union minister.
Earlier on Sunday, Buta claimed the support of the Chavan.
"The Chief Minister has said in Nanded that Buta Singh is a senior Congress leader and currently he is heading a constitutional body. This is a political conspiracy by Opposition parties," Buta had claimed at a press conference in New Delhi.
Buta's Sarabjot was arrested July 30 for allegedly taking Rs 1 crore as bribe from Patil to get the builder's name cleared from a case. He will be in CBI custody till August 5.
A case against Patil was registered under the SC/ST Atrocities Act for allegedly cheating some Dalit workers. The case was filed allegedly on Buta Singh's instructions during his visit to Nashik a couple of weeks back.
Patil is accused of having taken loan of Rs 10 crore from Sri Hari Bade Sir Cooperative Society based in Navi Mumbai against the names of 100 Dalit workers.
CNN-IBN had broken the story about how Patil had allegedly used his proximity to some National Congress Party leaders in the entire scam.
Charges against Patil are that he had cheated 100 workers, all Dalits of Nashik, of sums of money ranging from Rs 11.5 lakh to Rs 17 lakh.
