Boy falls into Adyar river, feared dead

CHENNAI: B Sakthi (10), a class 5 student who lived at Kotturpuram Water Tank Colony, was walking on the water pipes adjacent to the Kotturpuram bridge on his way back from school, when he slipped and fell into the Adyar River, on Wednesday evening. Sakthi was apparently chatting with his friends while walking on the pipes, when he is believed to have lost balance and fallen into the river. An alarm was raised and the police and TN Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the scene. Police sources fear that the boy has drowned, although rescue efforts were underway to find him. A case has been registered with the Kotturpuram police.
