Several areas of the city might face power cuts for three days from Monday (August 6 to August 8) owing to the connection of a new power station at Singanayakanahalli near Yelahanka.
Built by the Power Grid Corporation of India, this station is expected to bring greater stability to the city’s power supply. Bangalore currently has three sub-stations at Somanahalli, Hoodi and Nelamangala. If power supply is affected at one of these stations, the others play the role of backup.
When the new station at Singanayakahalli is connected on Monday, lines at the Nelamangala power station will have to be cut, confirmed senior officials of the energy department.
“As a result, we will not have a backup for three days, if power supply to the other stations is affected, we might have to go for load shedding,” the official said.
A three-year-old project, the station at Singanayakahalli was completed three months ago and was awaiting clearance from the Energy Department for connection.
