CUTTACK: State BJP Vice -President and former principal of the Christ College Asit Bose died in a tragic road accident at Trisulia under Barang police limits on Friday afternoon. He was 69 and survived by wife, two sons and daughter-in-laws.According to reports, Bose was riding a scooter and on way from Bhubaneswar to Cuttack when he collided with a truck. He was reportedly overtaking the truck moving on the same direction when he came up against a speeding motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.He tried to swerve but lost control in the process. He fell off the scooter and came under the rear wheels of the passing truck. He died on the spot.Asit Bose, along with a accomplished academic career, had been a key member of the RSS and BJP, holding important positions at various levels. He had started his career as a lecturer in physics at Christ College and went on to become its principal. He had retired as the principal of the college.He had held positions as the State Assistant Secretary of the RSS along with the Cuttack city unit president of BJP before becoming the State vice president. He was also associated with the Sikhya Vikash Samiti, which runs the Saraswati Sishu Mandirs in the State. He was also the State convenor of the BJP Training cell.His death cast a pall of gloom in the BJP organisation in the State. While condoling his death, senior leaders including former Minister Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, State General Secretary Nayan Mohanty, vice presidents Rajkishore Mohanty, Urmila Nayak and Archana Nayak, State RSS secretary Gopal Mohapatra and VHP Zonal organisational secretary Basant Rath rushed to his residence to pay their tributes.His funeral rites would be held on Sunday after his sons, who are settled abroad, reach Cuttack, Nayan Mohanty said.
