Dehradun: Alleging "unprecedented rise in corruption" under the Harish Rawat dispensation, Opposition BJP on Wednesday began a state-wide yatra "to unmask Congress and its corruption in several cases".
Flagging off the "pardafash yatra" from the party office, State BJP president Ajay Bhatt said the effort was "to acquaint people" with the corruption cases against the government.
"People are fed up with thriving corruption under Harish Rawat and want to get rid of his government. We are taking all the issues to each individual of the state through this yatra," said Bhatt.
"We will acquaint people with all that was done to buy support of MLAs to save Harish Rawat's government, the sting CDs, the scam in distribution of relief during 2013 calamity and the rape of a deaf and dumb inmate and her subsequent abortion at a government run shelter home for distressed women in the city," he added.
Criticising Rawat for sticking to his chair despite "evidences of corruption against him and Congress in public domain", Bhatt demanded the chief minister's resignation.
"Rawat stuck to his chair despite as many as four sting CDs against his government in public domain. We demand his immediate resignation. Even Congressmen are now issuing public statements against their own CM," he said.
Senior party leaders including Naresh Bansal, Khajandas and former MLA Subodh Uniyal also attended the yatra.
Eight teams headed by Bhatt, former chief ministers Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri, Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Vijay Bahuguna, Union Minister Ajay Tamta, former union minister Satpal Maharaj and former state minister Harak Singh Rawat will take part in the rally which will cover 44 assembly constituencies in its initial phase.
