Bihar Man Spends 4 Years In Jail For Wife's Murder. Turns Out She Is Still Alive
The woman claimed that her father had filed a false FIR and mistook another woman's body for hers, leading to the wrongful imprisonment of her husband.

In a case that reads like the script of a thriller movie, a man in Bihar was arrested for the murder of his wife, only for the police to discover years later that the alleged ‘deceased’ victim was very much alive. This shocking development captivated the local community and raised questions about justice and familial bonds.

The saga began with Dharamsheela Devi, a resident of Ara, who allegedly faced severe domestic abuse from her husband returned to her parents’ house after claiming to have endured relentless violence. Tragically, shortly thereafter, her mother passed away, leading to further turmoil in her life. Allegations surfaced that her father had begun to exhibit inappropriate behaviour towards her, pushing Dharamsheela to the brink of despair.

In a desperate attempt to escape her harrowing circumstances, she walked toward the railway tracks, contemplating suicide. However, a passerby intervened just in time, asking her to share her troubles. This encounter led to an impromptu marriage at a temple along the Ganges, with Dharamsheela believing she had finally found a way out of her nightmare.

Meanwhile, her father, believing his daughter to be dead, filed a murder complaint against her first husband, Deepak, and other family members. On October 31, 2020, police discovered an unclaimed body near the Sone River, which her father identified as Dharamsheela’s. A subsequent autopsy confirmed the body belonged to a woman, leading to Deepak’s arrest on murder charges.

Fast forward four years, and the plot took an unexpected twist when police found Dharamsheela alive in Mirganj Mohalla in Gopalganj district of Bihar. After being found, she provided a statement to the authorities, claiming that her father had filed a false FIR. She accused him of mistaking another woman’s body for hers, leading to the wrongful imprisonment of her husband.

Dharamsheela told the police that her father had lied to her first husband (the arrested man) and misidentified the dead body. She also accused her father of making inappropriate advances towards her. “I am now married to Ajay Kahar and have two children,” she clarified.

Authorities, including ASP KK Singh, confirmed the complexities of the case. Singh noted that while the original murder investigation had concluded with the accused imprisoned, they are now looking into Dharamsheela’s claims against her father.

The chilling story of Dharamsheela Devi underscores not only the harrowing realities of domestic abuse but also the potential for tragic misunderstandings within families.
