Jaipur:In a major breakthrough, one of the two key suspects accused in the case of missing nurse Bhanwari Devi was remanded to two-day police custody after he surrendered in a court in Jaipur on Saturday.
Shahbuddin is a history-sheeter and considered to be close to former Rajasthan water resource minister Mahipal Maderna, who was sacked from the Rajasthan Cabinet by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot following allegations that he behind the mysterious disappearance of Bhanwari Devi. He is suspected to have killed the nurse.
Shahbuddin, carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, surrendered before Metropolitan Magistrate (Economic Offences) Alka Gupta who is dealing with the CBI cases in the absence of the CBI Magistrate. Soon after the surrender, he was taken for a medical check up.
The 36-year-old nurse has been missing since September 1 and her family suspects that she has been murdered. The CBI had on October 11 taken over investigation into disappearance of Bhanwari Devi and registered a case in this regard.
Bhanwari Devi was posted as auxiliary nurse midwife at a sub-centre in Jaliwada village, around 120 km from Jodhpur district.
CBI officials suspect that the auxiliary nurse may have been killed and the agency has been working on the possibility that her body may have been burnt in some limestone quarry in the state.

Two other key suspects - Baldev and Sohanlal - have already been arrested in the case.
