THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Bhagavatha Swadhyaya Samithi is organising a Sreemad Bhagavatha Sathram at Kunnath Mahadevar Temple, Kudappanakkunnu here, from December 16 to 25. Samithi office-bearers told reporters here on Thursday that the event is also a commemoration to the great Bhagavatha exponent the late Malliyoor Sankaran Namboodiri.They said that the city was hosting a ‘sathram’ after a gap of 10 years. The sathram will be led by Malliyoor Parameswaran Namboodiri. Around 40 scholars will deliver discourses at the event. Transport and Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar will inaugurate the event on December 16 at 4 pm. Sathram patron V C Vijayakumar will preside over the function. Haridasji will deliver a discourse on the greatness of the Bhagavatha. The ‘Dhwajarohanam’ marking the beginning of the event will held at 7 pm. It will be followed by a devotional music programme by P Neelakandan and team. Former Union Minister O Rajagopal, S Gopinath IPS, Hindu Aikyavedi state general secretary Kummanam Rajasekharan and temple thantri Kuzhikattillathu Vasudevan Parameswaran Bhattathiripad will offer felicitations. ‘Ganapathi homam’, ‘Vishnu Sahasranama parayanam’ and ‘Bhagavatha parayanam’ will be held on all days, the office-bearers said. A cultural meeting will be held on December 24 which will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Power K C Venugopal at 7 pm. On December 25, the concluding day, programmes will start with ‘Ganapathi homam’ at 4.30 am. It will be followed by ‘Vishnusahasranamam’ (5 am), ‘Bhagavatha parayanam’ (6 am to 9 am), and ‘Thathwaniroopanam’ by Damodara Sharma (9 am to 10 am) The ‘Bhagavatha parayanam’ will be held from 10 am to 11.30 am. Sreekanth Sharma will deliver the ‘Thathwaniroopanam’ (Kalikalavarnana, Salvation of Pareekshith and Bhagavatha Samgraham) from 11.30 am to 1 pm. It will be followed by ‘Avabhruthasnana Ghoshayatra’ (1 pm to 1.30 pm), ‘Samarpanapooja’ (2 pm to 3 pm), ‘Dhwajarohanam’ (3 pm to 4.15 pm) and ‘Sreemad Bhagavatha Samarpana Sabha’ (4.30 pm to 6 pm).
