Kolkata: The newly constituted 14th West Bengal Assembly meets in Kolkata from Monday for its Budget session with the customary inaugural address by state Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi.
The session will be preceded by the election of the Speaker.
Hasim Abdul Halim, holding the august post since 1982, will be elected unopposed to the Chair in the absence of any contender.
The Left Front has stormed back to power for the seventh consecutive term with a three-fourth majority while the opposition has failed to even notch up the number to attain it requires for the opposition status.
The main opposition Trinamool Congress has failed to reach the required number of 30 by one seat whereas Congress comes next in the House with 21 members.
The Budget will be placed in the Assembly on June 23.
