Bar girls say they will stage shows to raise money for doctors' agitation, say docs must not suffer like them.

Mumbai: Doctors protesting against the reservation policy have earned supporters who are willing to dance for them.

The city's bar girls have decided to do stage shows to raise money for the anti-reservation agitation. Anchal, a waitress, was once a bar dancer but plans to dance again to help the doctors.

“We'll do whatever we can to help doctors—stage shows and dance. Whatever has happened with us should not happen to the doctors. We've been able to tolerate and face injustice but they wont be able to,” says Anchal.

Manjeet Singh Sethi, president of the Bar Owners Association, said the stage shows could start soon. "We'll be lending moral and monetary support. We don’t have funds but we'll be raising funds for the doctors. The stage shows will start in Mumbai in June," he said.

Medical students welcomed the help from this unexpected quarter. "We're happy that the bar dancers have come out and given us support. We need the money, so any amount of it is welcome," said Dr Gunjan Sharma, a spokesperson for the Youth for Equality group.
